Back in ancient times, Fairport recorded an album called Full House, containing the particular fiddle tune medley that was fated, years later, to make a lasting mark (well, it's lasted so far) on contemporary music journalism. In an effort to document an important bit of history, two of the men who were there were asked to attempt to remember who came up with that now-famous title.

Pegg: " `Dirty Linen?' Oh, christ... it would have either been Swarbrick or Thompson. It was probably Swarb, because it was him who put those four tunes together. It's a great medley -- we still enjoy playing it."

Nicol: "It was 1970, and I don't know who it was, but it certainly came out because we were all living together. I think there were 13 people between band, associated wives, girlfriends, assorted children, living in one place and sharing one bathroom, which had an immersion heater which took a long time to heat up just one small tankful of water. So dirty linen was much on our minds at the time. It was just sort of a thought that was in the air."
